According to the Guinness Book of World Records the speed of the fastest horse was 43.97 mph. This speed was calculated over 1/4 mile to get an average speed. Unofficial records show Chickasaw Indian Thoroughbred horses traveling at speeds of 55 mph.

There are manydifferent horses and each one has a different running speed. Others aren’t made to run at a high speed, so they don’t have the ability to run as fast as you might think. Some are very fast.

Extra gaits are possible for some breeds, which can significantly increase their speed.

Next is the Arabian, which runs at 34-40 mph. They are best suited for shorter distances. Appaloosas can run at any speed and run at speeds of around 30-41 MPH.

The Standardbred, Akhal-Teke and Mustang all have speeds around 30-49 mph.
